What's the course about?
The unit aims to enable students to identify project strategies and plan and implement a project. Participants will learn to identify how project teams work and are managed. They will acquire and practise the skills needed to become a successful project manager and learn how to review a project on completion.
Areas covered include:
• The ICT project life cycle model
• Planning an ICT project
• Establishing a project team and identifying roles and responsibilities
• Management methods for controlling and monitoring a project
• Reviewing a project on completion and lessons learned
• ICT project success/failure criteria
• Cost control
• Change control
• Project performance monitoring
• Task scheduling
• Organisational structures
• Leadership requirements
The course is delivered through a combination of formal teaching, directed learning and discussion. Participants will be assessed on a project report and supporting documentation,based on their involvement in either a real project or a suitable case study scenario.
How long is the course and when will it be taught?
The course is studied for 30 hours over 5 weeks, either one day per week of two evenings per week.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?
Applicants will need to have carried out work experience commensurate with Level 3 in the National Qualification Framework or have relevant project management experience.
Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete
the course?
On successful completion participants will be awarded the City and Guilds Higher Level Qualification Level 4 Unit 1 in Project Management.
What will I be able to go on to do after I’ve completed this course?
On successful completion of this course, you may progress onto our PRINCE2 Foundation or Practitioner
courses.
